We wanted to share with you that a call is out for participants for the 2024 Journey to Nia Retreat + Coaching happening on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 8:30am (ET)-5:00pm.
Lead facilitator Takiema Bunche Smith has dedicated her whole career to deeply supporting Black children, families, and educators. This Retreat is the culmination of her nearly three decades of witnessing, and learning about research that shows that Black children experience anti-Blackness in overt and covert ways in formal and informal early childhood environments. The retreat is premised on the belief that if we understand how early childhood spaces can create spaces of equity, joy, and belonging for Black children, we can be a model for the K-12 education system and beyond.
As such, the theme for the 2024 retreat and coaching is: The Fierce Urgency of Now*: Breaking the cycle of anti-Blackness in early childhood.
You, your colleagues, and your networks are invited to register for this transformative retreat which will happen at the incredible African-centered preschool, Little Sun People. The environment in this preschool is an inspirational and informative backdrop for all the learning and connecting that will happen at the Retreat. To continue the learning, participants will have access to 3 months of coaching after the retreat.
Registration is currently open, and this year we are offering a BOGO rate, so teams and divisions of early childhood organizations can build their capacity to support Black children. For special group rates, please respond to this email, or sign up for a time to check in with me soon.
Lastly, If your organization would prefer to bring the Journey to Nia Retreat + coaching on-site, please fill out this form and someone from Team Anahsa will get back to you.
